Call for abstracts for the session EEnergy Geotechnics:

Thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical Coupled Processes in Soil and Rock" at AGU 2023

Description of the session:

Increasing energy demand and related climate change implications necessitate the development of sustainable energy systems based on integrated schemes of energy production, transport, transfer, and storage. Energy Geotechnics integrates concepts from geotechnical engineering and geomechanics with hydrological, geophysical, geochemical, and petrophysical principles. One of the most important aspects affecting the energy production is the effect of changing stress state, pore fluid pressure, and temperature on subsurface fluid flow. This session invites experimental, theoretical, and numerical contributions to different aspects of energy geotechnics, especially those dealing with coupled transport and deformation phenomena.

Specific topics include, but are not limited to shallow and deep geothermal energy extraction, seasonal and long-term geologic storage, fundamental advances in poromechanics, and interdisciplinary research overcrossing social, engineering, and scientific disciplines.

Conveners:

  • Ingrid Tomac - University of California San Diego
  • Roman Y Makhnenko - University of Illinois
  • Victor Vilarrasa - Spanish National Research Council
  • Keita Yoshioka - Montanuniversität Leoben
