Iman Rahimzadeh Kivi

Biography

I hold BSc, MSc and PhD degrees all in petroleum engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), Tehran, Iran. During my academic career, I have conducted research on both experimental and computational geomechanics. I did both my MSc and PhD research at AUT Geomechanics Lab. My PhD research included simulation of hydro-fracturing and hydro-shearing in shale gas resources within the theoretical framework of multi-scale plasticity and damage mechanics. I have also participated in three research projects on the experimental evaluation of the geomechanical behavior of reservoir rocks at AUT geomechanics lab.

In addition to my research activities in academia, I had the opportunity to closely collaborate with the petroleum industry in Iran. I have been involved in two national projects, including one on managing carbon in the Iranian gas industry conducted from August 2013 to October 2014 at Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company, and the other on developing two potential shale gas resources in Lurestan Basin conducted from March 2015 to March 2018 at Research Institute of Petroleum Industry. From September 2018, I continued my research in the field of geomechanics as a lecturer at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Iran, where I have established my own research group on reservoir geomechanics.

Since January 2020, I am part of the IDAEA-CSIC group as a post-doc researcher, where I want to extend my research in other geo-energy applications, mainly including geologic carbon storage, geothermal energy and the related induced seismicity.
